Project objective

To encourage visitors to explore beyond Kspace into the broader Museum and to make connections between their Kspace experience and objects and stories in the galleries.

The Kspace Augmented Reality (AR) Trail app supports the Museum’s new Kspace experience. Kspace is a time-travelling interactive adventure game for kids aged 5-12, where kids design time-travelling robots and blast back in time to Australia’s past to complete a mission unique to that time and place. The Kspace AR Trail app encourages kids to explore the Museum by finding characters from the Kspace games in different locations in the Museum’s galleries. When kids find the markers they can use the AR app to trigger the appearance of a character from one of the Kspace games. Then they can interact with the character, learn a little more about them and their significance in Australian history, and take a fun photo, before seeking out the next one.

The project utilised existing models and SFX, and some animations from the main Kspace games – this allowed for cost efficiencies and for a strong continuity between Kspace and the in-gallery app experience.
